Hello ARSS Family! We want to welcome our new members from our Facebook and Instagram. We appreciate you joining our ARSS community!
Sometimes dad’s just don’t get the recognition they deserve! Well, this is YOUR month here at ARSS! Happy Father’s Day to all the dad’s out there, birth dad’s, adopted dad’s, grand dad’s – all dads. Especially for you this month, we have started a “Birth Dad’s” Group. This is a great place for all dads to talk about their specific experiences, as birth father’s and to speak to your journey. Please join if you are a birth father here!
Welcome Angel Lee, who is joining us this month. Lee specializes in DNA, as a genetic/forensic genealogist! We are happy to have her joining Nikkie, Jessica, and myself.
One of our many goals is to pay it forward and so far we have been able to do that with the kind gifts of some of our recent finds with our “Best Genes You’ll Ever Wear” program! Please include Adoption Reunion Search & Support in your own “pay it forward” gifting. We truly appreciate it!!
June, kids are out of school, parents are beaching it with them…Do you need some good reads? We have two books we are highlighting this month:
Our first selection is, “It’s Not About You: Understanding Adoption Search, Reunion & Open Adoption", by author Brooke Randolph, LMHC. This book is written for adoptive and birth parents and their therapists. These are stories for the birth and adoptive parents, as comfort, for them to understand, and find peace in the fact that “It’s Not About You”! These stories contain experience and wisdom for many who have lived adoption. And a good way for adopted parents to understand how being adopted feels for their adopted children. Get this book, read it. It is really that good.
Our second selection is “The Girls Who Went Away: The Hidden History of Women Who Surrendered Children for Adoption in the Decades Before Roe v. Wade”, by author Ann Fessler. This is a deeply moving, myth-shattering work. Ann Fessler brings to light the untold history of the million and a half women who surrendered children due to enormous family and social pressure in the decades preceding Roe v. Wade. This book is gripping. Everyone should read this, no matter what part of the triad you belong.
We hope you will read our monthly news, and come back often to our website, Facebook page, and Instagram.
-Cathy Thompson, ARSS Founder
