Summer Reading Recommendations

June, kids are out of school, parents are beaching/at the lake with them. Do you need some good reads?

Here are books I would like to highlight so far this month:

Our first selection is, “It’s Not About You: Understanding Adoption Search, Reunion & Open Adoption”, by author Brooke Randolph, LMHC . This book is written for adoptive and birth parents and their therapists. These are stories for the birth and adoptive parents, as comfort, for them to understand, and find peace in the fact that “It’s Not About You”! These stories contain experience and wisdom for many who have lived adoption. And a good way for adopted parents to understand how being adopted feels for their adopted children. Get this book, read it. It is really that good.

Our second selection is “The Girls Who Went Away: The Hidden History of Women Who Surrendered Children for Adoption in the Decades Before Roe v. Wade”, by author Ann Fessler. This is a deeply moving, myth-shattering work. Ann Fessler brings to light the untold history of the million and a half women who surrendered children due to enormous family and social pressure in the decades preceding Roe v. Wade. This book is griping. Everyone should read this, no matter what part of the triad you belong.

If you have suggestions to add to the list, comment below! Would love to hear some I need to add to my summer reading list :)
